NatureScaping - April 10, 2010
The NatureScaping event was held at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park on April 10, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event was free and featured environmental speakers, Florida native plant vendors, and other exhibitors promoting environmental awareness. The Stormwater And Me program had our public education booth set up and staffed for the entire event. Approximately 100 tote bags, 50 notepads, 60 key chains, and over 100 of each brochure were given out.
Debris can be harmful to wildlife
Nutrients (from leaves, grass, fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides) can lead to fish kills and excessive amounts of algae in the water
Bacteria (from pet waste and dead animals) can produce health concerns
Sediment can reduce the system's ability to handle potential flooding and adversely affect aquatic organizms
Chemicals, oils, and paints can be toxic to plants and animals
